The Paint the Town Red group are to present a further festival in Workington town centre on Saturday 9th September 2017, to build on and evolve the former festivals, which have had an average attendance of 40k.
To keep this interesting and build on the successful concept, this time it will be Vintage in The Town
This will feature a vintage marquee, which will include traders with vintage clothes/retro homeware and up cycled furniture.
A retro stage will have music from the 5o’s to the 90’s with a legendary group from the 60’s being the main act, and this will be enhanced with tribute acts from a variety of eras, to make sure the town is rocking to an eclectic mix of sounds.
This will be complemented by the usual variety of music and street entertainment all over the town, so wherever you wander there will be something for all ages to amuse and entertain you.
Heritage bus tours will operate on a regular schedule from the town centre to the Harbour side, who are celebrating 90 operational years and will have various working equipment on display. The new Workington lifeboat, Shannon, will be on display, with an opportunity to go on board and view this innovative all weather boat. There will be local historians on the buses who will give commentaries on the rich heritage and history; we have in the area, from Mary Queen of Scots to Galloping Henry.
Students from Lakes College are to participate in various activities, with artwork designed and collated by them displayed all over the town, forming an artwork trail. Catering students are to prepare and provide tasting of food from different eras and other course work students will become involved in other aspects, yet to be announced.
Street collections on the day will be taken and donated to the local RNLI.
To assist with the presentation and provide a safe family environment, we require stewards to assist during the day.
